Rednesday Yummies

Hello Rednesday friends!  I'm a little late today...golf again.  It was excruciating.  Our heat index today is 110°.  It's VERY humid to boot!  Like walking into a sauna.  We're expecting some severe storms to night.  Hopefully not too severe and hopefully it cools it down a bit.

Today I'm sharing pictures of my garden girl and out first decent tomato haul.  Our first tomato came really early this year (June 24th) but it's been sparse pickin's until now.  The plants are just filled, though.  It won't be long and we'll be overloaded with tomatoes and start giving them away.

These are the best looking tomato plants I've ever had.  I really don't like using chemicals in the garden and will only do so as a last resort.  In years past this has meant that my tomatoes, although producing, looked awful!  Well, this year we had a wet spring and the tomatoes were showing signs of blight right away.  I found this product called Soap Shield from Garden's Alive.  They sell lots of environmentally responsible products.  I would HIGHLY recommend this product.  The directions said to apply every week to 10 days, but let me tell you, I only applied it twice.  It's been 6 weeks since my last application with no signs of disease.  I am VERY happy with the results.

I love this picture...even though it's a little out of focus.  This is two tomatoes grown together.  Doesn't it look like a heart?  Coincidentally, the tomato is called "Juliette."  One of our favorites.

Yum!  Yum!  I think Italian sausages with peppers and onions will be on the menu this week!

  1. Your garden looks fabulous! Mine's had a slow start due to wet Spring, then no rain until this week. I bought some Aqua Cones this year, and they've helped tremendously.

  2. Oh, your garden looks fantastic! Due to how much rain we got, we weren't able to put up a garden this year. It was the first time we haven't had a veggie garden in over 10 years!!

    Your tomatoes look so yummy!

  4. Your garden girl is darling! How great that she is interested in, and loves to garden.

Oh my gosh, your garden is beautiful! & thank you so much for your advice on tomatoes! This is our first year of growing tomatoes and although they are bearing fruit, they look dreadful. Makes me so sad and I worry whether the tomatoes will ever ripen on two of the plants, they look so bad. I will be sure and check out the product you used.
What are the plants with the wonderful huge leaves? So much fun.

    Happy Rednesday,

  5. Hi Shelley!
Thanks so much for the info regarding your gorgeous veggies with the huge leaves. I had never heard of sweet potato squash before and I just googled it and I nearly squealed aloud, it's so pretty. And I had heard that zucchini requires a lot of room but I had no idea it has such large leaves. Learn something new every day, huh?! I'm hoping to have a couple of raised beds next year - that is if hubby and I can agree where to put them! ;)
    Thanks again and Happy Saturday!

  8. I've had a few questions about the huge leaves around the tomato plants. The one on the left is sweet potato squash (yum!) and on the right, zucchini.
